Wendy, this is a very thorough and fair analysis of who indeed is the puppet master in this historical arrangement. Most people have no clue of how this relationship began and has evolved with the flipping of leadership roles. There is no one else we can lay off our mistakes on at this point. The buck stops here!! Thank you, great effort, great care and of great importance.
Barbara, no one is absolving America. Assuming that anyone examining London must be avoiding American responsibility is the projection.
Wendy admits Britain built the architecture, London “weaves the string,” and financial architects do not care about borders. Then she declares Washington the sole master because it prints the dollar.
Printing the weapon proves power. It does not prove ownership of the entire machinery. The buck does not stop where the currency is printed. It stops where the system is built, operated and monetized.
Thank you. I think Wendy is trying to show that this blaming London or Britain is just a case of distraction on the part of others. I think the whole point is to avoid having citizens looking at the continuing extraction that keeps extracting while The Who's on first drama plays out. Of course the buck does not stop solely where the currency is printed. But it may be the main driver of the system that continues to be built, operated and monetized to continue extracting what no longer is justifiably earned at such an excess. Where do you think the ownership resides?
Barbara, blaming Britain and identifying the City of London are not the same thing. British citizens do not control the Square Mile any more than ordinary Americans control Washington’s financial machinery.
The “Who’s on first” distraction only works when countries are treated as the owners. Washington supplies the dominant currency and enforcement power. But ownership is found by tracing who writes the contracts, prices the commodities, insures the trade, shelters the capital, restructures the debt and retains the margin.
You asked where ownership resides. I followed those functions across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Chagos, Vietnam and Cuba.
Here is the map. Read it, then tell me where the money lands. 🦋
This is a superlative analysis of the financial history and architecture, which as you noted, a lot of people get wrong. i.e., give the UK more credit and blame than it deserves, etc.
Having said that, it is remarkable that it held the financial crown for three centuries, while America is finding it hard do hold it for even one, due to its arrogant abuse of the “exorbitant privilege” it acquired in 1944, as evidenced by the ceasing of the dollar reserves of foreign countries with which it disagreed, starting with Iran in 1979, and the latest one - that of Russia in 2022, which prompted several countries to start considering alternatives. Who in their right mind would choose to keep their money in a bank that could, on a whim, freeze their account, if it disagreed with them?
This last one especially, i.e. with Russia was a fatal mistake!
It certainly didn’t help that the current occupant of the Oval Office, at the urging of Netanyahu - the tail that wags the dog, abandoned a policy that has served to maintain the myth of military superiority for so long, by initiating a senseless war that has revealed hitherto concealed weaknesses. Indeed, the man behind the curtain has been outed.
This misadventure, might be the ultimate turning point in the dynamic of the global financial architecture.
Thank you so much for this bright comment—I agree with you completely. That’s an important observation about how the British (and Dutch) each managed to hold the financial crown for roughly three centuries yet the U.S. is struggling to keep it for even one. You’re absolutely right to pin a large part of that on the arrogant abuse of the "exorbitant privilege" it won in 1944. There is a profound psychological and moral hazard in being the world's reserve currency in the age of technology, and America leaned into that hubris with breathtaking speed. Likely because it could, with the Industrial Revolution and debt scheme perfected by John Law behind its engine. https://youtu.be/diEVmQZ1QfM?is=dWcgD1FRXx0mJXEz
But I’d add that this arrogance is colliding with a physical reality that simply didn’t exist in previous eras: the ferocious, accelerating metabolism of modern technology. This is precisely where I find Joseph Tainter (The Collapse of Complex Societies) and William Catton (Overshoot) so indispensable.
Tainter argues that societies collapse when the marginal returns on their increasing complexity begin to diminish. The U.S. financial-technological apparatus is the most intricate system humanity has ever built—but sustaining it requires staggering, exponentially growing energy inputs. Every new layer of fintech, AI, and digital infrastructure demands more computation, more cooling, more rare-earth mining, and more grid capacity. Instead of solving our resource constraints, technology is rapidly devouring our energy surplus, triggering exactly the diminishing returns Tainter warned us about.
William Catton sharpens the picture further. In Overshoot, he frames modern civilization as drawing down natural capital (finite fossil fuels, minerals, and ecological sinks) to prop up ever-growing financial and industrial capital. The U.S. didn't just abuse its monetary privilege; it used that privilege to supercharge global resource extraction. Technology accelerated this drawdown, meaning the ecological debt we've accrued over the last 80 years rivals—or exceeds—the ecological debt the British accrued over 300.
This, I think, is the real game-changer: the sheer velocity of technological change. The Dutch and British had centuries because their energy curves were gradual. Today, Moore’s Law and the AI revolution compress resource consumption into decades. So the U.S. isn't just failing due to political arrogance; it's failing because its technological edge has turned into an energetic Ponzi scheme that reaches its limits far sooner. The "abuse of privilege" is thus a double-edged sword—it buys immense short-term power, but it also accelerates the overshoot and the subsequent correction.
Your comment brilliantly highlights that temporal disparity. It’s not just that America is repeating imperial history; it’s that technology is making the cycle spin so much faster, leaving no room for the slow, graceful decline the old empires enjoyed. Thank you again for the stellar insight—it genuinely deepened my own thinking on this.
Thanks for that brilliant commentary on my own. After reading many essays on Substack, which presume, but ultimately fail at any objective analysis of the issues, it is refreshing to read your incisive and balanced dissections.
Indeed, as you posit, the securitization of the American economy, by which real economic production has been moved offshore, and wealth is been transferred from the general population to the financial elite, is a disastrous situation, but I believe that this trend is much, much worse in the UK than in America.
Personally, I believe that Thatcher’s policies, which resulted in wholesale de- industrialization and securitization of the British economy in the 1980s, may have doomed the country. Hence, apart from the financial transactions occurring in the much lauded City of London, there is not much of any other economic activity left in the UK, and to make matters worse, the government continues to increase the tax burden on the already underemployed citizens.
Strangely enough, some chap writing on Substack, blames immigrants, the labor party and “Fabianists” for this debacle.
Another excellent observation. Your commentary is so refreshing—truly! Thank you for being here. That point alone could be another essay. It's silly how Americans can think Britain is somehow the all-powerful Oz, especially given its deterioration. I think people will soon catch on that America isn't the all-powerful Oz it purports to be either, especially as its paper money begins to vanish into a black hole. Hubris will miraculously transform into humility, for those who still have a conscience left. That’ll be one beautiful day!
Everything moves in cycles. The dollar will be knocked off its perch but I am not sure it's the BRICS that will do it. True, capital flows to where it is treated best. Good writing about a subject most people don't care about.
Yes, capital simply goes where it is “treated best,” like a tourist choosing a resort. No sanctions, clearing systems, offshore shelters, insurance markets, debt contracts or military protection shaping the route. 😂
Calling it a “cycle” describes movement; it does not identify who built the track, redirects the capital or collects the toll. The dollar can lose its perch while the same architecture quietly builds another one.🦋
Simply speaking, Brits are the wicked brain (Intelligence services/spy networks - colonial legacy) and the slush fund, and the U.S. is the brawn of the Global (Imperialist) Oligarchy.

Meanwhile the extraction continues. That is the main point behind the point. I believe Ms Williamson has gone to great lengths over several months of essays to show her readers that no matter what , we shouldn't take our eyes off the ongoing extraction. We will need to be prepared for the inevitable collapse. It also seems that you have a lot to say and feel obliged to provide us with your thoughts. Sometimes it seems as if you think of this space as one that needs to be run as two co-anchors.....you and Ms Williamson. I certainly hope that you are at least a paying subscriber and not a squatter presenting themselves as a partner of this property.
Thank you for a comment that attempts to say... something. The ongoing extraction??? and the inevitable collapse??? Brilliant. Were you attempting to promulgate anything useful?
Pointing out serious reasoning flaws in this public forum is of benefit to all.
Substacks are not "property" they are public forums.
Opinions governed by refined reasoning skills and evidence is the way forward.
Wendy's last article was an inaccurate political hit piece.
An overly long and well laundered essay of the 'Promethian narrative' - designed to obfuscate the role of DaCity of London - and thus DaSynagogue of Satan - in its conqest of Western Civilization and ascribing its role to Britain and DaUS as if the populace of those countries had the imagination and drive to accomplish what is now fait acompli. The only blame I lay on us plebes in both countries is for our ignorance and insouciance! We've become willing servants of DaSynagogue of Satan by spilling our blood and wasting our treasure in endless bankers' wars - you and him go fight - while ASSuming our actions are on the right side of history.
You might even discover that our rulers today are NOT descendants of the tribe of Judah, but rather fake converts pretending to be the inheritors of promises made in Old Testament days to Israel - a nation of 12 tribes. It all ended in 70 AD!
When Jesus condemned DaPharisees as the 'children of the father of lies' and called them out as the Synagogue of Satan - He wasn't just exercising rhetoric - He stated a FACT!
And BTW - since your essay was also posted at Lew Rockwell - a couple of days ago on Unz someone wrote about the apparent change in editorial policy at Lew Rockwell - obvious to anyone with a brain - that the straightforward reference to DaChosen ones must be reoriented or eliminated - which Wendy Williamson has apparently obeyed to the letter - congratulations!
Thanks for reading. I describe City of London's power explicitly in the essay. My argument is that it's subsidiary to the United States. That's a structural claim based on documented history. As for the theological claims, I don't write from that framework. I'll leave that to others. I discuss only the actual thesis—the transfer of financial power from London to Washington. No more.
Theological claims? My comment has little or nothing to do with theology - only historical reality - and that reality is that all of Western Civilization has been co-opted by an oligarchal criminal gang of banker thieves who control every aspect of WCiv - name one institution not under their control, I dare you! If you had read just a half dozen of my linked articles written by authors I learned from, it would be clear.
Add to that the fact that a very large percentage of those oligarchs came from or belong to a distinct tribal ultra minority of no more than 2% - but not in any way theological since most of them are not religious in any sense - creates suspicions in the minds of folks whose knowledge is not Wikipedia dependent - that there's more here than a transfer of non-identified personnel reaping the benefits - Britain to US.
To purposely blind yourself by naming it 'theology' - and thus providing a convenient excuse for not examining the ENTIRE array of historical evidence available - reflects on your job as an analyst - and only works with midwits whose entire history was learned in 8th grade. How do I know? I WAS one!
Just to be clear, I’m not disputing anything you said. Perhaps “theology” is not the right word. Was there something in my essay you disagreed with or found factually wrong? I’m confused by your comments since my essay was not about what you’re talking about. It doesn’t mean I agree or disagree, just it isn’t my area and it wasn’t my topic, so I have nothing to say about it. That’s all.
Of course you're confused - anyone asked to address a societal phenomenon which they have never perceived or considered - but EXISTS in plain sight for those who do - is unable to deal with it. Does that then LOGICALLY follow that whatever we don't see.....we should ignore? Reality?
I have lately come to the conclusion that almost all people live in Delusionville - based on THEIR ASSumptive presumptuous presuppositions learned early in life and which they cling to with existential desperation. Willful ignorance is not the exception - it is DaRule!
Unless and until. - you or I are willing to challenge our long held beliefs - we're relegated to enduring DaShitShow now in progress - it's our choice.
Here's wisdom.....if you can stand it.....it took me decades to start getting it.....
A whole new level......and old as dirt.....but hiding in plain sight!
What say we try to fill DaGap? It ain't competence vs incompetence.........it's pure EVIL! PERIOD! With lots of DECEPTION......orchestrated by who?
It took me years, but finally DaPicture is becoming clearer -
You might think I'm also 'full of it'....but prove the authors I connected wrong! Requires lots of reading.
This is NOT something summarized in a 25 word or less synopsis - if you're not willing to take the time and pay the price in time and effort - forget what I wrote - keep feeding DaMidwits .....and goodbye!
I hear what you're saying: there's a reality beneath the surface that most people never see. I don't dismiss that.
But you're implying that if I don't see what you see, in the way you see it, then I must be living in 'Delusionville'—willfully ignorant. That's a convenient way to dismiss anyone who doesn't share your framework. But as Jesus said: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" (Matthew 7:3). We all have planks. The question is whether we're willing to examine them.
I've spent years looking at the architecture of power—not just the surface, but the deeper patterns. I don't claim to have all the answers, and I'm not dismissing what you're pointing to. But I see it through a different lens.
I write about this in my series, The Lost Center of Civilization. A couple of pieces that might speak to what you're getting at:
One of the threads I trace is how the Christian faith—when it became the political power of "Christendom"—structurally reenacted the Fall. Christendom's political theology did not merely decline; it terminated. Its end came in the trenches of the First World War, where the last divine-right monarchies collapsed and the claim to authority was severed. The age of political theology was over.
A good book on what structurally changed is The Unintended Reformation: How a Religious Revolution Secularized Society by Brad S. Gregory. Goodbye.
Here's the link to the article at Unz which describes what might be going on at Lew Rockwell - where I found your 'safe' and PC essay:
"Once again, Rothbard refuses to hide behind collectivist abstractions like “the United States.” Operating from the methodological individualist principle that states do not act—only individuals do—he underscores that America was governed by a ruling elite driven by three powerful dynasties, including its increasingly influential Jewish faction."
Lew Rockwell had supported Hoppe against extreme Zionists but early 2025 Hoppe noticed an alarming deterioration in Rockwell’s health.
“It was heart-wrenching to see the shocking deterioration of Lew’s health. He had difficulties speaking and he could no longer type. It was apparent that he could not possibly anymore be in full control of the mighty intellectual enterprise—the MI and LRC—that he had built up in some forty years. I also had some beginning doubts that he was the actual author of everything still written and published under his name.” (Hans-Hermann Hoppe. Mises Institute: Quo Vadis?)⁸
"Some speculate that Lew Rockwell is not even aware of any power struggles. After all, the 82-year-old Rockwell is on extended sick leave and has not been seen in public for long time. Many suspect that Rockwell is no longer calling the shots, but rather his relatives, and their ally, Professor Joe Salerno, together with David Gordon."
And therefore what? Most of the people reading this blog are common folk and have no agency to influence macro finances or geopolitical actions. We are all pawns in the Great Game. Are we supposed to wallow in anxiety or delude ourselves that voting matters? Or is this just an exercise in documenting our demise? I would argue that endless diagnosis cures nothing and is the ultimate distraction. Is it realistic to assume that we can crowdsource a macro remedy? What keeps us from using our brain power to focus on tangible remedies, at the very least at the local or individual level?
Based upon your research and analysis, what do you recommend that we learn from this historical litany of dysfunction? And thereafter, what to do about it?
Seeing the system is not enough. You must also act. The way out is active refusal—the decision to stop feeding the machine and start building something else. This is right-brain work:
Start local. This is not feel-good advice; it is strategic. Local economies are resilient because they are relational. A farmer who knows your name is harder to replace with a supply chain. A business that relies on your patronage is accountable to you. These are not just transactions—they are bonds. And bonds are what the extraction machine cannot replicate or replace.
Support real education. The extraction machine requires a workforce that cannot build, fix, or grow anything for itself. Apprenticeships, journeyman programs, and hands-on trades create a population that can survive outside the system. A society of competent, self-reliant people is harder to extract from because it has less need of the system’s services.
Reject consumerism. The economy of extraction depends on endless consumption—the belief that happiness is purchased rather than built. Buy less, buy better, and learn to distinguish need from manufactured desire. Each purchase made consciously is a vote against the system of planned obsolescence.
Align your savings with your values. Do not invest in companies that extract, pollute, or exploit. Invest instead in local credit unions, community land trusts, regenerative agriculture, renewable energy, and cooperative businesses. Do not keep your savings in cash—cash is debt, a promise from the government backed by nothing but faith in the system. Gold is real. Park your wealth in things that exist outside the debt system: land, tools, and physical gold. As the World Gold Council's 2026 survey shows, central banks are doing exactly that—accumulating gold as a hedge against a debt-addled world. Held in your own hand, gold carries no counterparty risk.
Simplify your life. The attention economy is the extraction machine’s newest frontier—it harvests your time, your focus, and your capacity for independent thought. Unplug from algorithms that profit from your distraction. The right brain craves silence, presence, and real connection—not endless scrolling. Give it what it needs.
These are small steps, but they are real steps. They are not a political program. They are a way of life. It is the slow, quiet work of building a world that does not require extraction to survive. It is the decision to do what Adam and Eve could not: look inward, take responsibility, and serve something real.
The system demands your loyalty, your labor, your attention, your hope. It wants you to keep watching the magician’s left hand while the right hand works. But you can choose otherwise. You can turn away and serve something real. Your family. Your land. Your community. The people right in front of you. The work that needs doing. The life that is yours to live, not theirs to extract.
Your right brain already knows how to do this. It knows how to connect. It knows how to care. It has been waiting for you to let it lead.
The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties—but right through every human heart.
That is the oldest truth of all. And that is where the real battle is fought—not in Washington, not in London, not in any of the stories you have been sold. It is fought inside your mind daily. Now.
I'm going to reply here, as I find this advice more pertinent than the actual essay as you have missed some crucial points. With that said it was well written, well presented and on a public level very pertinent.
However, the entire planet is organized as a corporation, and it is all for profit, businesses, nations, AND Non profits, yes you heard that right. All of it... I think it was Carlin, but don't quote me who stated if voting mattered at all, they wouldn't allow you to do it...
The power structures and players have always kept it in the family.
This isn't a conspiracy you can trace back the families to Rome and Babylon. And this essay doesn't need me to go deeper, or older, but the Corporation is very actual and as you can see with investment groups like Statestreet, Vanguard and Blackrock, they are slowly acknowledging how these entities control the entire economy with the Banks, Feds (privately owned), the BIS, World Bank, and yes the Vatican and The Crown Corporation are still high up on the Totem Pole.
I mean when you are Washington, London, and the Vatican in City States that are not touched by any international laws, literally ABOVE the law, and you control the BARR association, and again I could go on and on and on and on...
And I was planning on writing about the Worlds Corporate Grid (US Corporation), but for now you might want to look into the Canada Case Study I wrote on here, that is a good example of how history went from documenting migrants and orphans to documenting and harvesting data from every single human, smart device, and soon every atom... most always for profit... The Babylonian Money Magic Spell has never been lifted...
When Jesus turned the money lenders tables in church (synagogue...) for this, he was exposing that this world is not what it seems. None of it. So yes on paper Washington seems to be in power... but there are something like 30 levels above top secret that even the presidents are not privy to. Do you think that is normal, the god of the land cannot see what thousands of operatives, scientists, deep state people are doing???
The president is definitely not at the top of any totem poles, even though some have more power than others, Bush seniors comes to mind as he was head of the CIA for a number of years. Like Putin who was head of the KGB, they both had more power than any other president in my view, real power...
Thank you for reading and for this thoughtful engagement. I appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective, and for the kind words about the essay, even if you think I missed some crucial pieces.
I think we're coming at this from different angles, but I don't think we're as far apart as it might seem. My essay is focused on one specific structural claim: the transfer of financial power from London to Washington, and why Britain is now subsidiary to the US. It's a slice of a much larger picture—I don't claim to have mapped the entire power structure.
You're pointing to a broader framework—the corporate grid, the Vatican, the Crown Corporation, and asset managers like BlackRock and Vanguard. I don't disagree that these are important players, and I'm aware of the arguments you're making. But my essay is making a narrower point: within the financial architecture, Washington is the center of gravity, not London.
That said, I think we agree on the deeper structure. The scriptures put it plainly: 'No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Mammon.' The world has chosen Mammon—and Mammon doesn't care about flags. Transnational capital is the real master. It doesn't love London or Washington. It follows profit, stability, and power.
The question is: where does transnational capital go when the old order becomes too costly? That's what my essay's epilogue is asking. Britain was the seat of Mammon's temple in the 19th century. America became the seat in the 20th. The money makers are already laying the groundwork for the next temple—and it looks a lot like the Middle East.
So I think we're actually pointing at the same thing, just at different scales. You're mapping the entire grid. I'm tracing one strand—the transfer of power from London to Washington—and asking where that strand is heading next.
I'll take a look at your Canada Case Study. It sounds like you've done some important work. Thanks again for engaging.
Thanks for the engaging reply! And yes I agree, it is important to see where the money is going, but wouldn't it be even more interesting to see the actual individuals that own it... and Elon Musk is not that brilliant or what they say he is, and his assets are not all his.
I've subscribed and agree that we are coming from different positions but are pointing to the same problems... Mammon, Cult of Satan, and even the technocrats are all building another level of control with the smart 15 min city grid, and programmable currency, and if we truly want to be free as humans we truly must reject it all!
Small truly is beautiful!
On a side note I liked your picture with the right cathedral top down structure and left protest decentralized structure.
Lets keep waking people up!
We need people at every level!
Much love, I did enjoy the read, and already got the big picture, but you did fill in a few blanks.
Now you're talking. There is both value and hope is this response. They want us to despair, but you have parried that with concrete wisdom that both inspires and strengthens. You can do more than chronicle with your talent. You can and should lead.
This was in my other essay called The Intellectual Architecture of Trumpism. I can only say it so many times, but if you read my work regularly, you’ll find very positive messages of hope.
This particular essay that you read was a bonus during the week and it only happened because I had my first podcast interview on Friday. In that interview, some questions came up that I was determined to answer for people. I normally only publish on Sundays. :)

I have made a list of books and videos available here that I draw on for much of my thinking and writing: https://www.wendywilliamson.com/books-and-films/
In case anyone reading this comment would like more information.
It just occurred to me that I should write an essay on this alone! I can’t emphasize enough, it’s an extremely important observation.

What utter fools we are!

I WAS one!
Proof? - www.crushlimbraw.com - all this crap took place under MY watch!
And keep writing - discovering truth or reality is a process - not an end state!
It took me years, but finally DaPicture is becoming clearer -
https://crushlimbraw.blogspot.com/2022/09/the-gap-in-understanding-world-affairs.html?m=0 - and this is just a glimpse........DaLimbraw Library is full of it for those who are willing to dig deep. No, I didn't write them....I just connected some dots.
"New Gods of the Systemic World" —on how we've replaced transcendent meaning with systemic idols, and the spiritual vacuum that creates. https://wendywilliamson.substack.com/p/new-gods-of-the-systemic-world
"The Law of Reversal (Enantiodromia)" —on how systems tend to flip into their opposites, and why the very forces that build an empire also contain the seeds of its collapse. https://wendywilliamson.substack.com/p/the-law-of-reversal-enantiodromia
The full series is here: https://wendywilliamson.substack.com/s/lost-center-of-civilization
"Once again, Rothbard refuses to hide behind collectivist abstractions like “the United States.” Operating from the methodological individualist principle that states do not act—only individuals do—he underscores that America was governed by a ruling elite driven by three powerful dynasties, including its increasingly influential Jewish faction."
https://www.unz.com/article/mises-institutes-5-purges-omitting-jewish-bankers/
"The Coup
IN any case I digress.
Here is the article:

This is important. As making the public aware of the bullshit we are living in constantly now.
Also, kudos for your solutions in this reply! I agree with them all pretty much!
I hope you enjoy my deep dive...
Thanks for reading and stay tuned.
