There is another form of wealth that needs to be included in this discussion. And it is best encapsulated in the term "human capital" as represented in community, village, tribe. It is the trust and cooperation of human beings that value each other, support each other, and grow with each other; both in knowledge and physical effort. It is a magnifier and store of robustness and resilience. It is the primary vehicle of transmitting wisdom between generations. It is a form of love that binds and sustains the desire to serve others in mutual shared benefit. We cannot forget this type of wealth as we pursue material things. We are more than that.

Good article, Wendy. I guess my raised beds full of sweet potatoes, pumpkins, potatoes,

and carrots beat Bitcoin any old day!

The recently deceased philosopher/farmer, Wendell Berry, wrote this:

"Can we actually suppose that we are actively wasting, polluting, making ugly this beautiful

land for the sake of patriotism and the love of God? Perhaps some of us would think so,

but in fact, this destruction is taking place because we have allowed ourselves to believe,

and to live, a mated pair of economic lies: that nothing has a value that is not assigned

to it by the market; and that the economic life of our communities can be safely handed

over to the great corporations."
